In May of this year the Vologda region Government approved a strategy for the region’s agricultural sector and consumer market development. This article presents the values of key indicators of the functioning of agriculture, food and processing industry of the region until 2020. It considers the priorities for agricultural development defining the content of agricultural and food policy in the region over the long term. Particular attention is given to the tools and conditions that contribute to the modernization of agricultural production and strengthening the social potential of rural areas
