The article studies the Vologda Oblast residents’ confidence in governmental and public institutions in the context of different socio-demographic groups covering the period of the late 2000s – early 2010s. The changes in people’s estimations in 2012 are studied in comparison with other periods. The article evaluates the opportunities of enhancing people’s confidence in governmental and public institutions in the light of certain steps undertaken by federal and regional authorities to develop civil society
