The article describes the basic concepts and theoretical approaches to the study of protest behaviour in foreign sociology. The stages and features of social protest studies in domestic science are defined. The main trends in the development of the methodology studying the factors defining the protest behaviour are described. The article substantiates the scientific and practical significance of research on theoretical and methodological problems of studying protest behaviour for a more profound understanding of this phenomenon, as well as for adjusting the strategy of the federal and regional policy and reducing social strain
