Homogeneity of economic space considerably determine security and competitiveness of the state, accelerated development of all its territories and thereupon providing respectable living standards of all population in the country aside from the place of residence. Polarization strengthening of the Russian economic space is one of the burning issues, which not only practitioners at the state and municipal levels, but national scientists-economists are trying to solve. The aim of the article is to draw attention to the problem of disruptiveness and fragmentary nature of the Russian economic space, which remains one of the main risks concerning security, integrity and competitiveness of the state. Based on the data from the state statistical authorities the article shows urgency and acuteness of the problem for the Russian Federation. The author defines the negative tendencies, characterizing differentiation enhancement of territories’ development, and determines the conceptual approaches to managing spatial development, which are focused on reduction of socio-economic imbalances and provision of integrated development of territories
