Abstract   |   Authors   |   References
The article is devoted to the transport infrastructure development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation as a unified transport system based on the modernization of the Northern Sea Route in conjunction with the development of the macroregion’s land and air transport infrastructure. The author notes the importance of transport as one of the main factors in solving spatial development problems which is relevant for a significant part of the country’s undeveloped territories, especially the Arctic zone. In addition to further involvement in the economic turnover of natural, primarily hydrocarbon, resources, the role of transport in the Arctic is to form a competitive transport and communication system on a new technological basis that meets the strategic objectives of the country’s development, ensuring the economic space unity. It is a factor of socio-economic growth not only in the Arctic, but also in Russia as a whole. The paper pays considerable attention to the topic of the revival of the Northern Sea Route. It is a key transport artery in the Arctic’s development with the functions of an international transport corridor, a supplier of products of resource-producing industries to domestic and foreign markets ensuring the livelihoods of local population, and performing other functions of geopolitical and applied nature. The work proves the importance of other types of transport in the integrated development of the Arctic territories, ensuring communication with other regions of the country. The author shows the success of the transport projects’ implementation using innovative technical and technological developments and management solutions to coordinate social and economic relations between state structures at all levels, corporations, businesses, industries, and population, including indigenous northern peoples. The research emphasizes that the state’s role strengthening means the formation of a systematic approach that ensures effective management of territorial development including the infrastructure potential of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and the country as a whole
