The article assesses the potential of the life expectancy increase due to the possible reduction in mortality from external causes in the Vologda Oblast. The medical and demographic situation in the region and financial resources allocated to health care in our country are analyzed. In general, medical and demographic situation has positive developments, however, its main indicators are still far from those of the developed countries.
