The article considers certain theoretical approaches to organizing forms and patterns of social protest that are the most widespread in foreign and domestic science. The author analyzes the basic approaches in identifying the factors that determine collective protest. The article substantiates the scientific and practical significance of the research in the theoretical and methodological study of protest for more profound understanding of this phenomenon, as well as for adjusting the strategy of the federal and regional policy to reduce the level of social tension in society
