The article highlights the relevance of taking into consideration the adaptation period of schoolchildren in educational process. The work defines the concepts of social and psychological adaptation, and pays attention to the most important aspects of this process that children go through. The article presents a system of work for the inclusion of the first-year schoolchildren in educational process; it gives a brief review of the monitoring results concerning the level of students’ adaptation during the years 2007/2008 – 2012/2013
