Current economy is the result of complex interaction of the subjects of the socio-economic system. The forms and scales of interaction change with the economic development of the territory in which these entities operate. The research of regional scientists gives a significant place to identifying the optimal ratio of the economic role of government, science and market. At the same time, the question of understanding the essence of such interaction and systematizing the stages of its development remains open. The study of this issue will allow developing directions for solving problems in the field of territorial economy in future. In this regard, the purpose of the work is to generalize the theoretical aspects of interaction of science, business and the state to identify its role in the development of the territory’s economy. The scientific novelty of the research is to form the author’s approach to the concept of the essence of “interaction of science, business and the state”. The article uses general scientific methods of analysis, comparison and generalization as a methodological basis. The conducted research has made it possible to generalize theoretical approaches to studying the concept of “interaction of science, business and the state”, on the basis of which the paper considers the essential features of this interaction and introduces the author’s interpretation into scientific circulation. The author has revealed the distinctive interaction features of science, business and the state within the framework of pluralistic and neocorporativist models. The research presents the evolution stages of the interaction of science, business and the state from the point of view of the development of the territories’ economy. A comparison of approaches to financing the interaction of science, business and the state in the United States, Germany and Russia has revealed discrepancies in the financing of joint research and development. Further research will reflect the key factors influencing the development of interaction between science, business and the state.
