The article presents the main results of monitoring of public mental health, conducted by
team of ISERT RAS in 2009. The research identified the categories of people having the most
common negative emotions and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and neurosis. Negative effects
of reduced psychological background to the physical well-being, behavior, interpersonal
interaction, relevant to the professional activities of the individual are shown. The effect of
unemployment as a factor influencing the state of public mental health in the global financial
crisis is considered
